![]() There is very slight torque steer when pressing on but nothing like the unruly uncontrollable mess the previous generation became when pressing on. The car is so engaging and acceleration and braking are impressive. The pulling power of the 2.3 litre (adapted from the previous generation Focus RS) is awesome in any gear. Admittedly, so do I but I have no intention of using launch control at all. We all (car enthusiasts) go on and on about 0-100 km/h times and power to weight figures. ![]() The performance is said to be the same as a previous generation Focus RS over the quarter mile and when on the move, is quicker in some increments due to less weight. The electronic gizmos, e LSD diff and precious generation RS gearbox do an amazing job of reigning in 420nm of torque and 200kw + through the front wheels. ![]() Mine has the updated digital dash which is quite like a Playstation in a good way. The cost of around $50k on road isn't cheap but I think there is a lot of car for the money especially noting that we get the full fruit performance pack model including electronically adjustable dampers.Īs a driver's car, the '20 Focus ST is impressive. The overall feel was of greater quality although not up to the quality of a VW interior. When test driving the '20 Focus ST I was impressed with the space inside compared to the previous model. There is no doubt they offer great comfort and the ability to travel very quickly but in the land of Australia the limit is 110 km/h at most. In addition (I will probably be hated for this next comment) my previous Golf R, although quick and efficient, was dull and left you feeling disconnected from the whole experience. I looked at a newer generation Golf R but they don't come in manual any more and I like to be part of the driving experience. When looking at a replacement for my '13 Ford Focus ST, I wanted something with character but less torque steer as I didn't fancy ending up in the scenery. I wanted a new car with strong performance and practicality as I have 2 young children to cart around from time to time. I have owned numerous 'hot hatches' in the past including a '08 Ford Focus XR5 Turbo, '15 VW Golf R manual and a '13 Ford Focus ST. One thing us owners have in common is the uncontrollable smile these things generate. If you are thinking about buying a pre-owned RS, have a look around at the ones you see being driven. It seems unlikely Ford are bringing out a new model (mk4) RS, although the rumours persist. Just last weekend I filled up at Oberon, returned to Sydney and averaged 6.5. Mine tells me since purchase I am averaging 9.2 km/ltr. Happy to lug 5 people one moment, then take any road conditions you can think of. The versatility of the RS is, to me, is its best feature, just so practical. I personally find it as a good position enabling clear vision. Another is the height of the drivers seat. Ford pressure tested ours, all good, but replaced with new gasket anyway, at their expense, regardless. ![]() Love the fact it is a full manual, it has so much torque however that you can leave it in 3rd if you feel lazy.Ĭommon comments about the car were the head gasket concerns. We have now sourced a full size spare, got a jack and brace, that we carry when travelling in more remote areas. The lack of a spare tyre proved an issue. Road trains encountered used to bring a concern, in the RS they are dispatched with effortlessly. Our recent trip was 4100 km in 9 days, did not miss a beat, never has. It has been taken to Victoria, Tasmania (absolutely awesome), outback NSW and Queensland. Ours gets used for the weekly grocery run, trips through weekday traffic, then road tripping. The grip it generates is phenomenal, every driving style seems so effortless for the vehicle. I have absolutely no dramas with its behaviour, it happily plods along when required, then, snap, away it goes when the right foot gives it a go. The RS looks balanced, purposeful and well presented.Īs the RS was to be a daily driver, I was a little concerned about Sydney traffic. The Nitrous Blue and tyre package were no brainers for me. I had not test driven the car, instead I read many test drives and watched many video reviews before I committed to buy. As it turned out I had it in my driveway after 4 months. ![]() Initially I was told there might be a wait of 8 months for delivery. ![]()
